Shibori Weaving Workshop
Come learn how to weave interesting and organic designs on a rigid-heddle loom. Inspired by traditional Japanese shibori techniques, we'll learn how to insert shibori threads in as we weave, no hand-stitching required! The results are richly complex, and yet the technique is easy. You'll learn how to weave shibori efficiently, improving pattern accuracy and speed. The first two weaving classes will be with instructor Syne Mitchell at the Nifty Knitter shop in Issaquah, the dyeing class will be taught by Benjamin Bentler at his studio in Tukwila.
Dates & Price
Saturday 1:00pm-3:00pm, 3 Weeks
Starting September 14th, Syne Mitchell & Ben Bentler
Bring to Class: A pick up stick that is at least the width of your warp, two stick shuttles, embroidery scissors, and weft yarn. Your weft yarn should also be a fiber that can be dyed with acid dyes, but does not have to match your warp yarn.
As a student of this class, you will be provided supplemental weft for the shibori threads, dye for your piece, and a 24-page color booklet written by Syne Mitchell that covers the technique in detail.
Warp your loom with a light-colored yarn that is some combination of wool, silk, nylon, or other animal fiber that can be dyed with acid dyes. Solid colors, stripes, and painted skeins all produce different and beautiful effects.
And now for the boring, yet important, stuff:
