lace Weight Yarn

The lightest of them all, lace weight yarns are a 0 out of 7 on the yarn bulkiness scale. Light and airy, but also quite delicate.

Fingering weight yarns are super fine. They are a 1 out of 7 on the yarn bulkiness scale - only slightly more bulky than lace weight yarns.

Fingering Weight Yarn

Fingering weight yarns are a super fine yarn weight that includes sock weight yarns. It’s often used to make socks, hats, mittens, and other accessories. Our lovely in-house yarn, Flower Shop, comes in vibrant colorways as does Brooklyn Tweed’s Loft, and we offer a number of other fingering weight yarns that may just be the perfect fit for your next project!

Sport weight yarn is fine and includes baby weight yarns. A 2 out of 7 on the yarn bulkiness scale, it's an incredibly versatile weight of yarn.

Sport Weight Yarn

Sport weight yarns are a fine yarn that includes baby weight yarns. It’s an incredibly versatile yarn that’s great for just about anything: cardigans, sweaters, hats, baby blankets, you name it! We love Appalachian Baby Designs’ 100% Organic Cotton Baby Yarn for all baby project but have a lovely selection of other sport weight yarns - including Noro Yarn’s Yakuta -which you can peruse below.

DK Weight Yarn

DK weight yarn is a 3 out of 7 in yarn weight bulkiness, relatively light but slightly bulkier than sport weight yarns.

DK weight yarns include light worsted yarns as well. These are slightly thicker than fine yarns and slightly thinner than medium yarns, which makes them incredibly versatile. They are equally versatile as sport weight yarns - just with a little more heft to them.

Worsted Weight Yarn

Worsted weight yarn, including Aran weight yarn, is the most popular medium weight yarn. With a bit more warmth than the other yarn weights, this is the perfect weight yarn to create a cozy sweater from.

Bulky weight yarns, sometimes called chunky yarns, knit up nice and quick. They are perfect for warm hats, dramatic scarves, and delightful blankets and rugs.

Super Bulky Weight Yarn

Super bulky weight yarn is a 7 out of 7 in yarn weight bulkiness, which means it's cozy and works up the fastest of all the yarn weights.

Super bulky weight yarns, sometimes called roving, are the ultimate in instant gratification. Want a fast-finishing project? Pick one that uses super bulky weight yarn and you can easily finish a hat in just a few hours. These yarns are usually single ply and super warm on account of their bulk.
